Detectives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 33-year-old man, Olawale Sikiru, and one in every of his alleged accomplices for reportedly staging his personal abduction and extorting cash from his household beneath the guise of a ransom demand.
The police stated the scheme was uncovered after a girl recognized merely as Iyabo reported on July 5, 2026, that her son had allegedly been kidnapped whereas travelling to Igbara-Oke for work.
In line with the spokesperson for the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the report triggered an intensive investigation by detectives, who instantly started monitoring these behind the alleged abduction.
Jimoh stated forensic evaluation of the telephone quantity used to demand a ransom of ₦1 million from the household led investigators to Sikiru’s arrest on July 7.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspect had already acquired ₦50,000 from his household as half fee of the ransom earlier than the plot unravelled.
“Investigation revealed that he intentionally staged the kidnapping and succeeded in amassing ₦50,000 as a part of the ransom paid by his household for his purported launch,” Jimoh stated.
Additional investigations led to the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect, Agbelusi Ayomide, who allegedly assisted in finishing up the plan.
“Additional investigation led to the arrest of 1 Agbelusi Ayomide, 23 years outdated, who allegedly conspired with the suspect and harboured him in his residence whereas the fraudulent kidnapping plot was being executed,” the police spokesman added.
The command stated efforts are ongoing to trace down and arrest different people believed to have been concerned within the operation.
Jimoh famous that each suspects will likely be charged to courtroom upon the conclusion of investigations.
