
BANGKOK, Thailand – The Ministry of Inside and the Provincial Electrical energy Authority (PEA) have stepped up a nationwide crackdown on the illegal use of electrical energy for Bitcoin mining, raiding 14 areas throughout 5 northeastern provinces and seizing 315 cryptocurrency mining machines. Deputy Authorities Spokesperson Lalida Periswivattana stated the operation was carried out in cooperation with the PEA, the Division of Provincial Administration, the Royal Thai Police, and different companies following investigations into irregular electrical energy consumption in focused areas. The raids passed off in Ubon Ratchathani, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Roi Et, and Maha Sarakham provinces.
Authorities found electrical energy theft by meter tampering and unauthorized connections that bypassed meters solely. The stolen electrical energy was used to energy cryptocurrency mining machines, disrupting the effectivity and stability of the electrical energy distribution system. Officers estimated the full injury at roughly 40.38 million baht, together with about 5.38 million baht in penalties for electricity-related violations and round 35 million baht in adjusted electrical energy prices.
