The Ladies’s Downhill race in Crans Montana was cancelled resulting from hostile situations.
Following difficulties skilled by the primary six racers, the Jury interrupted the race resulting from rising security considerations. Athlete security remained the highest precedence, with the Jury finally deciding to cancel the competitors.
Ladies’s World Cup Race Director Peter Gerdol defined the choice:
“The primary cause is the security of the athletes. The visibility was getting worse and worse, they couldn’t see the race line correctly and it brought on errors. We noticed six athletes beginning and all six had some errors. This was an indication that it was a high-risk state of affairs. We all know that our sport is a dangerous sport, however the feeling was an excessive amount of threat. That’s why the Jury determined to cease the race.”
The interrupted begin, which noticed three racers file DNFs, adopted a course that had already modified in comparison with the morning inspection.
“The flat mild was getting increasingly more difficult and security may not be assured,” Gerdol continued. “That is primarily the explanation we determined to cease this race – for the security of the athletes.”
Nina Ortlieb (AUT/Head), Marte Monsen (NOR/Rossignol) and Lindsey Vonn (USA/Head) had been amongst those that encountered difficulties and didn’t full their runs, with the choice taken after six rivals had began.
